Frequently Asked Questions
All our cupcakes are baked and decorated fresh and to order at our bakery in Wandsworth. We use only the very best ingredients available, including free range organic eggs, Lescure butter, organic Doves Farm flour, Valrhona cocoa, Callebaut chocolate and all-natural fruits, spices and other flavourings, including organic Madagascan vanilla. We do not operate a production line or use industrial machinery; all our cupcakes are freshly baked each day in small batches and iced one order at a time. It takes longer but they taste better.
Yes! You'll find plenty of inspiration and pictures of past orders in our gallery and on our blog, but all our cupcake orders are bespoke so if you have a special theme or occasion in mind just let us know and we can come up with the perfect cupcakes. Of course, if your needs aren't so specific and you just want a nice selection that's no problem either!
All our cakes and cupcakes are made without artificial preservatives and we always recommend eating them on the day to enjoy them at their best. Depending on your needs you may want to get your cupcakes a day before you need them, and that's fine too - just store in their boxes at room temperature until you're ready to serve them.
In the (unlikely) event you find that you have cupcakes left over they’ll stay fresh for a couple of days in their box, or up to 3-4 days in an airtight container.
Please store our cupcakes at room temperature and never in the fridge - cold air can cause the sponge and buttercream icing to dry out. We do not recommend freezing our cakes.

Our big cupcakes are standard cupcake size - they're about 2.5" diameter (3-4 bites). Our mini cupcakes are around 1.5" in diameter (bite-sized). Our giant cupcakes are a whopping 8", and will serve 10-16 people depending on your cake-cutting skills and how hungry everyone is. If you need a larger cake just get in touch with your guest numbers and we can advise on the best size to choose.
We're always happy to avoid using any nutty flavours in your order if requested (there is an option when ordering your cupcakes to let us know). However we do use nuts from time to time in our bakery and therefore all our cupcakes may contain traces of nuts.
Yes! We offer amazing gluten-free cupcakes as a standard option in vanilla, and can provide other gluten-free flavours in bigger quantities for larger orders.
We have a delicious vegan vanilla cupcakes available to order, which can be made with vegan (soy) buttercream icing for vegans, or standard buttercream if you just require egg-free cupcakes.
Because of the freshness and delicate nature of our cupcakes they need to be hand delivered. We’re based in Wandsworth and deliver in Central and SW London for around £4-£14. For special orders (or those with a specific time slot) we can also arrange courier delivery elsewhere in the country - let us know what you need and where and we’ll get back to you with a quote.
Please bear in mind that private delivery costs, especially over long distances, can be very expensive. We don't make a profit on deliveries outside our standard area but do have to pass on full courier costs, which can be upwards of £70 outside the M25. We recommend ordering cupcakes a minimum of two days in advance, but we do get very busy (especially on Fridays and Saturdays) and the earlier you’re able to confirm the more chance there is that we can fit you in. This is especially true for very large orders and orders involving lots of bespoke decoration. For weddings and other large orders it is advisable to give us as much notice as possible (we can take a 30% deposit to secure your booking if it's a month or more in advance).
Larger cakes, especially bespoke cakes, require more notice and if you're planning on ordering a tiered or celebration cake, we recommend giving at least one week's notice, and more if possible.

Big cupcakes are available to order by the half-dozen, with a minimum order of 1 dozen. Minis are available to order by the dozen, with a minimum order of 2 dozen. We also provide great Munchboxes (2 big and 9 mini) and Combination Boxes (6 big and 12 mini) if you'd like a mix of sizes within a smaller order.

We have a stated minimum order of a dozen cupcakes per flavour, but we'll always be baking a selection of different flavours on any given day and if you let us know when ordering which other flavours you'd like we'll always do our best to accommodate your selections.
All of our Classic flavours are available to order every day of the week, while an ever-changing selection of our Special flavours is available from our market stalls, in mixed selection boxes and for special request orders (strict minimums apply).

We're a small team and in general if we're hiring there'll be an ad on our website. We're always interested to hear from people who are as passionate as we are about cupcakes, and we also try and offer as many internships as possible throughout the year. Crumbs and Doilies will not disclose any personal information about customers to third party businesses or organisations in any way, shape or form.
Payment is needed to confirm online and telephone orders and until payment is received your order cannot be guaranteed. For orders booked via an invoice pro forma payment is strongly recommended, and we reserve the right to cancel any order still awaiting payment on the delivery date. Issuance and receipt of your invoice is taken as confirmation of your order and because we may have had to turn away other clients and start preparations for your order invoices will remain payable in the event of cancellation or postponement.
Deliveries are made by hand on the date specified in your order. All deliveries are undertaken by Crumbs and Doilies or our couriers. Please ensure someone is available at the delivery address on the day of your order; if there is no-one on hand to receive the cupcakes we will do our very best to leave them in a safe place (with a neighbour, receptionist, caretaker etc.) but we cannot keep hold of the cupcakes for re-delivery and they will be left at the address you have given us. Crumbs and Doilies cannot accept any liability for the treatment of your order or any subsequent mishandling once a delivery has been made.

Refunds or a replacement order to the same value will be given only in the event that you receive the incorrect product or if the cupcakes are of unsatisfactory quality. Should this be the case, or if you are in any way unsatisfied with the condition or quality of your cupcakes upon their arrival you must contact us within 24 hours of receipt. Crumbs and Doilies will not accept liability for any complaints made after this time.
We reserve the right to use photographs of orders we prepare on our website, blog, Twitter pages and Facebook pages. If you would like to specifically request that we do not use pictures of your order, or that we provide you with a picture of your order we will usually be happy to do so but you must let us know at the time of ordering.
