We love bespoke work, not least because we get to spend a few hours hand-making cute little Cars/Unicorns/Minions/(Insert current Pixar character here), but also because the whole team gets involved in the creative process. Bespoke cakes don’t always have to be huge, bank-breaking sugarpaste-heavy affairs, and sometimes a delicious dreamy buttercream cake with a few special pieces will do the trick nicely!
Our small gang of office-based cake-obsessives love to come up with bespoke ideas for any budget, and there’s no project too small for the talented decorators in the kitchen! We love this cute little Disney Cars cake we did for Sebastian a few weeks back!
This September saw 10 years since Wicked, the story of our favourite gravity-defying green lady, first graced the stage in the West End. What better way to celebrate 10 Wicked years than with a sparkly green cake? We gave our classic Unicorn Cake a wicked makeover so that it was greener than Elphaba, added some glitter, green meringues and voila!
We hope the cast and crew LOVED the cake, and we wish them another 10 Wicked years!
These cold days and dark nights have us yearning for and reminiscing about the brighter days of Summer… Remember when it was light until 10PM? Remember when the parks were full of shirtless people, basking in those rare and precious rays? Remember when it was so hot that setting up a four-tier ganache wedding cake in a warm conservatory was nothing short of terrifying? No? Well we do!
Lucy and Garey had their wedding reception in the stunning Great Conservatory at Syon House this Summer, and we had the pleasure of making a beautiful chocolate wedding cake for them. While we were more than a little nervous about the heat, our worries were for nothing, and the final result was worth a little panic. Congratulations, Lucy & Garey!
Never ones to turn down the chance to eat ice cream in the name of research, we naturally jumped at the chance to help the guys at Cornetto with this birthday gift for Perrie from Little Mix. This decadent beast of a cake, based on a Choc Caramel Crunch Cornetto, is two tiers of rich chocolate and caramel sponge, covered in caramel buttercream and ganache, piled high with all kinds of ice cream related trappings. Now that the work is done, we probably deserve another Cornetto… right?
The Monsters, Inc movie may be almost 16 years old (I know, right!) but it’s appeal is timeless. We recently did this scarily awesome cake for Hala’s 7th Birthday party! The monstrous cake features hand-made sugarpaste models of the whole gang, lurking outside the many doors of Monstropolis. Happy Birthday, Hala!
Despite a particularly inclement July, there’s no denying that it’s Summer in the UK, and that means it’s wedding season! We’ve had the honour of supplying cakes and bakes to many happy couples over the years, and we love how different each wedding is! These particular nuptials were pretty exciting, as the lovely bride and groom, Ani & Patrick, let us loose on their dessert table. Left to our own devices, we created a range of sweet treats to keep everybody going long into the evening, and the result is pretty amazing. Congratulations, Pat & Ani!
We’re no stranger to Dinosaur Cakes here at C&D Towers – we’ve had many requests for all things dinosaur, and for us, it never gets old. This birthday cake, for Jurassic enthusiast James, is our favourite yet! Each tier is hand-painted and adorned with cut-out, painted sugarpaste Dinos. We especially love the intrepid little Jeep, rather alarmingly positioned between an active volcano and a hungry T-Rex…
Everybody loves Minions, right? Well I don’t think anybody loves them more than Tristan, who may have broken a world record for “Most Minion Cakes at a Birthday Party” this weekend!
So while Crumbs & Doilies started it’s life exclusively as a cupcakery, we’ve grown and evolved a lot over the years! While we still pride ourselves on making the best cupcakes in London (possibly THE WORLD!), we now produce a lot of really amazing cakes, too. We now offer stacked versions of all of our ready to order cakes for when one just isn’t enough. Here’s a closer look a very cool Marine Biology inspired cake we did this weekend! We’re not sure about you, but personally we find sharks a little more er… palatable, when they’re of the sugarpaste variety!
Here’s a closer look at the ridiculously delicious three-tier Raspberry Ripple cake we did for Laura, this week. Each tier is made up of eight (yes EIGHT!) layers of raspberry sponge, coulis and buttercream… What more could you want than 24 layers of the moist, raspberry goodness? Fun fact – it took 5 punnets of fresh raspberries to create this monster. Totally worth it, if you ask us!
Who said corporate cakes had to be boring? We’re big fans of this fun, tiered cake we did on behalf of the team at LinkedIn, as a gift for the guys at Unilever to congratulate them on an epic number of LinkedIn followers!
Here’s a look at a double-stacked version of our Ombré cake that we did for Anaya’s birthday, last week. With layers of Ombré Vanilla sponge, this buttercream cake is finished with cascading polka dots and a ridiculously cute hand-made tea set! Happy Birthday Anaya!
