If you’ve been following Crumbs & Doilies for a while, you’ll know we love a challenge! As you’d expect, we were pretty excited when iconic British Beauty Brand Barry M (wow, try saying that ten times really fast) asked us to help them celebrate 35 whole years in the make-up game! Of course for a brand as unique as Barry M, not just any old cake would do. We created these bespoke colour-matched Strawberry Milkshake Ombré cakes, inspired by pieces from Barry M’s new collections. We created 35 identical mini-masterpieces for Barry M to send to some very lucky recipients. Happy Birthday Barry M – here’s to the next 35 years!
Who needs to catch them all, when you could just put them all on your cake? Such is the motto of Maxime, who prefers his Pokémon to be of the edible variety. This double-stacked cake is finished with silky smooth buttercream, with sugarpaste relief details and 3D sugarpaste models. Happy Birthday Maxime!
We’ve been doing amazing cakes for Athena and her daughters for years, and we know that whenever she gets in touch we’re going to be able to create something really fun. The brief this year was for an enchanting Snow White Cake. As always, Athena gave us an idea of what she had in mind, we drafted some ideas, sent her a quick sketch and she left the rest to us. We think the resulting cake is pretty magical!
We love a bride who knows what she wants, especially when what she wants is a delicious, ridiculous, drippy, decadent, triple-stacked monster of a wedding cake! Alice had her heart set on a combination of Cookies & Cream, Strawberry Milkshake and Unicorn flavours for her epic cake, and who were we to argue? We adore this mouth-watering masterpiece, and we hope Alice and her lucky wedding guests do, too.
We admit it, we’re kind of Harry Potter nerds here at C&D, so when Tej asked us to come up with a Harry Potter cake for a mega-fan, we were all over it! We love the magical, chaotic Diagon Alley, and thought that incorporating it into the design would make for a super fun cake. Our clever decorators hand-made and painstakingly hand-painted each shop-front, creating a very tasty diorama of the real thing. The cake is topped with a (very shiny!) chocolate frog, Bellatrix Lestrange’s wand, the Marauders map, and a big mug of Butterbeer, of course.
We think there’s no better way to promote your brand than through the medium of cake, and the guys at Teletext Holidays obviously agree. We did these super cute customised corporate cupcakes this week, including edible sugarpaste board shorts and 3D beach umbrellas! Who said corporate had to be boring!?
You can’t go near the internet without bumping into a Unicorn, at the moment, and we’re not complaining. We love creating edible manifestations of these mythical beasts, and we think they make for the cutest cakes. Lucky Harper got not one but two tiers of Unicorn goodness for her second birthday this weekend. Happy Birthday, Harper, we hope it was magical!
We love bespoke work, not least because we get to spend a few hours hand-making cute little Cars/Unicorns/Minions/(Insert current Pixar character here), but also because the whole team gets involved in the creative process. Bespoke cakes don’t always have to be huge, bank-breaking sugarpaste-heavy affairs, and sometimes a delicious dreamy buttercream cake with a few special pieces will do the trick nicely!
Our small gang of office-based cake-obsessives love to come up with bespoke ideas for any budget, and there’s no project too small for the talented decorators in the kitchen! We love this cute little Disney Cars cake we did for Sebastian a few weeks back!
As the old saying goes, “flowers schmowers”. OK maybe we’re paraphrasing, but if you ask us, flowers are so last year. Don’t get us wrong, we love a beautiful red rose as much as the next person, but we prefer that ours be buttercream. We’ll be whipping up a seriously lovely load of sweets for your sweet, which will be available in our Soho Store, or you can Order Online.
A little casual Googling tells us that the Mr Men Characters were first brought to life in 1971… that makes us feel incredibly old, but is also a testament to how timeless these moralistic little guys (and ladies – let’s not forget the Little Misses!) are. Check out this super fun mix of hand-piped and 3D modeled Mr’s we did for Clara this weekend!
The days are shorter, the air is colder and central London is ablaze with beautiful lights, which means that Christmas is just around the corner! We love London at Christmas time, and we don’t think that anyone visiting the capital at this time of year could help but get swept up in the festive spirit.
Team C&D start thinking about Christmas waaaaay earlier than is probably acceptable, but this means that we have loads of time to come up with an amazing Christmas offering. This year our Christmas selection will include returning superstars like Christmas Pudding, Salted Caramel, Christmas Spice and Red Velvet with some very welcome newbies like Mince Pie, Chocolate Truffle and Candy Cane!
In addition to our standard offering, we also specialise in really amazing, original corporate cupcakes and can add any logo you like to our fun festive selection. If you don’t want to ferry them all over London, we also arrange deliveries, so we’ve got your corporate gifting covered! Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more info!
This September saw 10 years since Wicked, the story of our favourite gravity-defying green lady, first graced the stage in the West End. What better way to celebrate 10 Wicked years than with a sparkly green cake? We gave our classic Unicorn Cake a wicked makeover so that it was greener than Elphaba, added some glitter, green meringues and voila!
We hope the cast and crew LOVED the cake, and we wish them another 10 Wicked years!
These cold days and dark nights have us yearning for and reminiscing about the brighter days of Summer… Remember when it was light until 10PM? Remember when the parks were full of shirtless people, basking in those rare and precious rays? Remember when it was so hot that setting up a four-tier ganache wedding cake in a warm conservatory was nothing short of terrifying? No? Well we do!
Lucy and Garey had their wedding reception in the stunning Great Conservatory at Syon House this Summer, and we had the pleasure of making a beautiful chocolate wedding cake for them. While we were more than a little nervous about the heat, our worries were for nothing, and the final result was worth a little panic. Congratulations, Lucy & Garey!
It’s that time of year again, and as much as we’d like to avoid it, it’s inevitable… We’re not talking about the greying sky, the shorter days or the end of Summer, but rather… the end of Bake Off! Tonight marks the very last GBBO as we know it, and we’re going to be consoling ourselves with more than a couple of baked goodies while we curl up to watch the Bake Off finale tonight.
In brighter news, we had the amazing opportunity to support the NSPCC with the annual Childline Ball. This year was extra special as it marked 30 whole years of Childline. This year, the team at NSPCC teamed up with our favourite TV show ever (GBBO obvs!) for a completely Bake-Off themed ball! To ensure an authentic Bake Off experience, we helped to create a Technical Challenge, by providing uniced C&D Cupcakes with plenty of buttercream and sprinkles, for the guests to recreate, and be judged on, some designs we’d prepared earlier.
The evening was captured by the talented guys at CPG Photography, and we’ve included our favourite moments for you here!
