The Monsters, Inc movie may be almost 16 years old (I know, right!) but it’s appeal is timeless. We recently did this scarily awesome cake for Hala’s 7th Birthday party! The monstrous cake features hand-made sugarpaste models of the whole gang, lurking outside the many doors of Monstropolis. Happy Birthday, Hala!
Despite a particularly inclement July, there’s no denying that it’s Summer in the UK, and that means it’s wedding season! We’ve had the honour of supplying cakes and bakes to many happy couples over the years, and we love how different each wedding is! These particular nuptials were pretty exciting, as the lovely bride and groom, Ani & Patrick, let us loose on their dessert table. Left to our own devices, we created a range of sweet treats to keep everybody going long into the evening, and the result is pretty amazing. Congratulations, Pat & Ani!
Last week was one of our favourite in the London calendar – Pride week! What’s not to love about a celebration of equality, acceptance and love? Oh and let’s not forget all the rainbows and glitter…
We turned our Soho Store into a homage for all things Pride related, and didn’t hold back at HQ either. Here’s one of the many amazing rainbow cupcake orders we made last week!
We can’t count the number of Alice in Wonderland inspired orders we’ve been asked to do, over the years. There’s something so compelling about Lewis Carroll’s characters and the magical world that they inhabit, that the story has been rendered timeless. We love working with this theme, as it allows us to be playful and creative, and no two orders are ever the same.
This beautiful two-tier buttercream cake is a soft Vanilla Sponge with a Piñata centre, full of mini smarties, that are just begging Beatrice & Otelia to “eat me”…
Ahoy, land lubbers! OK that’s all the pirate lingo I have for now, but luckily this order speaks for itself. Hector may only be four, but he knows what he likes, and what he likes is PIRATES! We did this amazing Pirate cake, complete with hand-painted treasure map and a quite menacing looking skull & crossbones, for this birthday this weekend!
If you don’t have a child (or you aren’t) under the age of 12, you probably don’t know who the Octonauts are…. but even if you don’t, you can’t deny that they’re pretty cool dudes. What’s not to love about anthropomorphic animals who live under the sea and go on rad adventures? Nothing! Here’s some super cute Octonauts themed cupcakes we did for a, you guessed it, Octonauts themed birthday party!
We’re no stranger to Dinosaur Cakes here at C&D Towers – we’ve had many requests for all things dinosaur, and for us, it never gets old. This birthday cake, for Jurassic enthusiast James, is our favourite yet! Each tier is hand-painted and adorned with cut-out, painted sugarpaste Dinos. We especially love the intrepid little Jeep, rather alarmingly positioned between an active volcano and a hungry T-Rex…
Despite appearances (drizzly cold June days, anyone!?) Summer is creeping in slowly, and that means it’s WEDDING SEASON! We love how different all of our brides and grooms-to-be are, and how they each have a unique vision for their big day. Emily sent us photos of the beautiful Hydrangeas they’d arranged for the day, and we did the rest. Congrats Emily!
Everybody loves Minions, right? Well I don’t think anybody loves them more than Tristan, who may have broken a world record for “Most Minion Cakes at a Birthday Party” this weekend!
Here’s some fun American Football Cupcakes we did for Max and Matthieu’s 9th Birthday, complete with sugarpaste trophies, chocolate footballs and buttercream grass. Happy Birthday boys!
So while Crumbs & Doilies started it’s life exclusively as a cupcakery, we’ve grown and evolved a lot over the years! While we still pride ourselves on making the best cupcakes in London (possibly THE WORLD!), we now produce a lot of really amazing cakes, too. We now offer stacked versions of all of our ready to order cakes for when one just isn’t enough. We thought it would be fun to give you a look at a few of the fun cakes we’ve made recently, and a sneak peek at how we made them!
We’ve had the pleasure of doing many an order for the guys at Simon & Schuster over the years and they always give us the freedom to create something really fun, whatever the occasion. Sara-Jade sent us the poster for their Books & The City event, outlined a few key elements that she wanted us to include and then allowed us to do our thing. We think the end result is pretty great!
Here’s a closer look a very cool Marine Biology inspired cake we did this weekend! We’re not sure about you, but personally we find sharks a little more er… palatable, when they’re of the sugarpaste variety!
